The "Aromas - Perfumes - Synthesis - Modeling" team focuses on the development of new molecules for aromas and fragrances and on describing the modes of action that allow them to be perceived.
The “Bioactive Molecules” team is interested in the synthesis of molecules with antiviral or antitumor properties as well as in the biological tools necessary for the study of their activity in vitro.
The “Human and Environmental Radiochemistry” team is dedicated to studying the impact of nuclear activity on the environment and on humans.
The “Eco-Compatible Materials and Polymers” team is part of a sustainable development approach and the promotion of a bio-based economy
Publications
In 2014, the ICN received the “Academic Innovation” award from the INPI (National Institute of Industrial Property) for the PACA Region for its knowledge transfer activities.
In addition, we recognize the GDCh “Horst Pracejus” prize, awarded to U. Meierhenrich in 2011, in 2014, the “Michel Delalande” prize of the National Academy of Pharmacy awarded to R. Benhida, in 2015, and the “Grand Prix” of the SCF (Société Chimique de France), PACA region, awarded to E. Dunach in 2016
Equipments
The Chemistry Technology Platform or PFTC is a joint service of Université Côte d’Azur and is able to meet the needs of public research laboratories and companies. The service and expertise it provides is supported by specialized staff and researchers from the ICN. It is made up of a technical team (three engineers) led by Dr. Mohamed Mehiri and offers the following services: nuclear magnetic resonance, mass spectrometry and a molecular modeling and imaging.
Partnerships
International relations
The ICN has a total of 91 publicly funded and competitively tendered institutional contracts: 2 European FP7 projects and 1 H2020 project, coordination of 2 international ANR (French National Research Agency) grants, participation in 2 Euro-Mediterranean projects and involvement in 8 Hubert Curien programs. In addition, we participate in 18 national ANRs (including coordinating 2), 1 PIA (Program for Investments in the Future) project, 2 FUI (French Interministerial Funds), 2 ARC Foundation, 1 FRM (Foundation for Medical Research) and 1 INCA (National Cancer Institute) as well as 2 Matwin (Maturation & Accelerating Translation With Industry). The ICN participates in or has participated in 3 COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology), 2 EU Projects (Marie Curie Actions), 1 ECOS North (Mexico), 1 ERANET ARIMNET (Coordination of Agricultural Research in the Mediterranean) 2016-19, 5 GDR (Groupements de Recherche), the CNRS ZATU network (Zone Atelier Territoires Uranifères), ToxNuc network , CEA (Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission), nuclear toxicology.
Key figures
The ICN has a total of 41 permanent staff including 6 CNRS researchers (2 senior researchers, 4 researchers), 26 faculty members (7 full professors, 19 associate professors), 5 technical staff (2 senior research officers, 1 research officer and 2 technicians) and 4 administrative staff. We also have 13 non-tenured staff (2 emeritus professors, 2 seconded associate professors, 3 honorary researchers, 6 postdocs) and 32 doctoral students.

The Nice Institute of Chemistry (ICN), directed by Professor Uwe J. Meierhenrich, is a research laboratory at Université Côte d'Azur associated with CNRS (UMR 7272). The ICN is organized into four research teams: The "Aromas - Perfumes - Syntheses - Modeling" team, the "Bioactive Molecules" team, the "Human and Environmental Radiochemistry" team and the "Eco-Compatible Materials and Polymers" team. The ICN also hosts a technology platform, made up of three joint services (NMR, mass spectrometry and molecular modeling)
