Dr. Maria DUCA has been a CNRS Research Director since 2022. She works at the Université Côte d'Azur (UCA) within the Institut de Chimie de Nice (ICN). Her research team is internationally recognized for its fundamental work on the design, synthesis and biological evaluation of RNA ligands. The applications of his research concern the development of new antibiotic, anticancer and antiviral strategies.

His work is widely recognized at international level, with a scientific output of excellent quality, numerous seminars in France and abroad at universities and industrial sites, and 25 conferences (plenary and invited) at international congresses, mainly abroad. She has also appeared in the general press (La Tribune, L'Obs, Sciences & Vie) and the specialist press (Chemistry Views, C&EN).

Dr. Maria DUCA's projects and work have won her significant funding from public institutions and foundations (ANR, IDEX, INCa, Cancéropôle PACA, SATT Sud-est, Région PACA, ARC) and private-sector companies (Servier, Sanofi, Chiesi). Dr. Maria Duca has already been awarded a prize from the ARC foundation (Prix Alexandre Joël, 2004) and a prize from the Académie de Pharmacie (Prix Delalande, 2007). She was named Chemistry Europe Fellow in 2023 by Chemistry Europe and received the Sanofi iDEA-TECH Award in 2024. In addition to her remarkable scientific career, Dr. Maria Duca has international academic responsibilities as Associate Editor of the journal RSC Med. Chem. and a member of the editorial boards of the journals J. Med. Chem. (ACS) and ChemMedChem (Wiley).

On a national level, she plays a major role in promoting chemistry as Vice-President of the Société de Chimie Thérapeutique since 2023, Director of the GDR RNA (2020-2024), elected member of the CoNRS (section 16, 2016-2021), and elected member of the SCF Chemobiology WG Bureau (2020-2022).
